With the current shift towards a more rigorous curriculum, teachers must provide regular practice with complex text and academic vocabulary. Interactive word walls are a student-centered resource teachers of English Language Learners can use to explicitly teach academic vocabulary while integrating content area learning.

Transform literacy with digital texts and tools: Padlet, Google Suite, Benchmark Universe, Flipgrid, and videos. Create engaging eBooks; provide reading assignments; and blend classroom instruction with interactive whiteboard resources. Bring Your Own Device to customize texts for close reading and review the Universal Design for Learning.

The VSSB works to provide material and program support for schools across Tennessee that wish to offer the award, building on the recommendations and successes of the national Seal of Biliteracy movement. After four years of piloting a similar program in Nashville, we are expanding our program to include schools throughout our state.
