The Key to Helping ESL Students with Seven Difficult Grammar Points
In this workshop, we will look at seven difficult grammar topics for ESL students, including prepositions, verb tenses, and phrasal verbs. We will identify student errors, discuss how to explain the correction, and consider class activities or teaching techniques to address these particular grammar issues.  This workshop is especially good for teachers who are not sure of how to explain why we say IN January but ON Monday, why we say "I HAVE EATEN SUSHI BEFORE" but not I HAVE EATEN SUSHI LAST NIGHT, or when we would prefer to say HE'LL CANCEL IT versus HE'LL CALL IT OFF (when CANCEL and CALL OFF are synonyms).

Best Vocabulary Teaching Practices: Research Findings and the Real World
Vocabulary knowledge is crucial for all learners, but lack of vocabulary knowledge is especially important to ESL learners. While everyone pretty much agrees that vocabulary is important, very few programs do anything to address vocabulary on a consistent basis.
This workshop will address key issues in teaching vocabulary such as: identifying words that students are not likely to know, explaining new vocabulary, and practicing new vocabulary. Teachers will leave with a new appreciation for the lexical plight that our learners face and take away specific classroom activities to help students with learning vocabulary.
